The Lion Building
About the Client
A global design and innovation consultancy known for its creative culture.
The Brief
This newly built office was beautiful, technologically cutting-edge, and built for creative collaboration.
Our role was to put the proverbial cherry on top and make it feel like home for the local employees, while acting as a beacon of inspiration for the clients and collaborators who would visit.
Additionally, this office opened during the COVID-19 pandemic. It was an exercise in designing for flexibility and change.
How do you make culture come alive in a space? We started with community installations inviting employees to celebrate their collective creativity.
One installation serves as a rotating display of employee’s passion projects.
A Fillmore-inspired poster wall chronicles company events and milestones while showcasing employees’ visual design chops.
Boxes of vintage design magazines belonging to the company’s cofounder were repurposed to create an immersive, custom wallcovering.
Speaking of walls, what about art? Holding the belief that art is a vital source of inspiration we built an art program prioritizing BIPOC, LGBTQ+, disabled, and/or femme artists. This program included the commission of a mural by local artist Christo Oropeza and partnership with Creativity Explored.
The signage program was bespoke and fully ADA compliant, drawing on the building’s history as a syrup manufacturer to inspire names for the rooms and public spaces.
With the plants, we went big and bold. Given the soaring ceilings, vast spaces, and loads of concrete, we chose huge, sculptural plants that would be aesthetically impactful, while helping with visual zoning and acoustics.
